Reflection Over Coffee


How quickly now
yet quietly
without a rush of wind
or forewarning
friends are gone.

How the news arrives
with a telephone ring
and day begins
seemingly the same
yet different.

Memories trip each step
to the kitchen and coffee.



Tom Harmon has worked for nearly 50 years as an advocate for people with mental and developmental disabilities. Now retired, he continues to work periodically as a consultant in that field, but spends most of his free time enjoying life with his wife, kayaking and writing poetry.
